One of the exercises asked in the comics course was creating and studying a character by drawing her in 8 different poses: front, profile, ¾ view, behind, standing up, sitting, lying down and lean against something. I’ve taken the opportunity to work on a character I created a very long time ago.
Lucie is a long-tailed female rabbit. She’s 12, her fur’s white, she wears a blue top, a pair of shorts made of jeans and a little red flower near her ear. At the beginning, when I was drawing her, she had no shorts at all; she was wearing only the blue top. When my friends wanted to draw fan arts of Lucie (especially ~cuteychao and ~gospel ) they added this pair of shorts that, I must admit, suits her very well ^^ Lucie lives in a little pleasant village that hasn’t been invaded by the urbanization of the country; this is why, in her land, we can walk in the wood, observe the trees and flowers, and listen to the birds that, often, land on your hand when you give them a bit of bread. She’s a nature lover anyway ^^ Lucie is a very nice and peaceful girl who has this wonderful quality to want to help everybody who is in the misery without any personal interest. She’s very sensitive, this is why the state of the planet outside her village –hunger, violence, disasters, injustice- makes her feel depressed, sometimes guilty, which will lead her, in her future life, to do everything to calm down the distress of weak people and to help the children to cheer up and show that life isn’t a fatality. Perhaps some people that are reading this comment will say it’s a typical and naive profile I’ve created, but everybody would be happy to have someone like her in our life. At the beginning, Tails was her boyfriend, but as I want to re-use my character later in my professional life, and as I haven’t the right to use a char that’s already under copyright (yes that’s Sega The worst is that I totally suck at creating a definitive world and stories, this is why Lucie might live in our modern time, or in a RPG-like ancient time where knights, wizards and powerful empires were dominating the world, or… I don’t know at all, there are many possibilities I can do, but which one could be the good one??? I‘m thinking of the concept of the little nice innocent girl that could become a kind of priestess, mastering several kind of magic and helping the heroes to foil the plans of the bad guy of the story :/ To come back to my work, I’m rather satisfied by some of the poses I made, even if I personally think the face pose and the walking one at the left-bottom corner don’t great (it’s the head I think I haven’t drawn correctly). Anyway, the teacher of the comics course marked this work 9 out of 10 O_o Woah! |

~Não existem coincidências, só o inevitável.~
But there are model sheets of other students that look much more awesome in design and inking than my little Lucie, so... it's surprising i have such a high mark o.o

Anyhow, the poses are pretty - especially the sitting one and the falling one look realistic, as is the pose with her leaning against the tree. The poses in the top row seem to be more the kind of poses you'd see on a reference sheet, and you did well on them too, nothing to complain about really, the ears have the same lengths, and the flower is a pretty addition. The clothes seem detailed enough too, and the little critters such as the sleeping character in the picture with the stone, or the french bread in her bag - well done ^^
The pose on with her walking looks a little stiff to me, however I can't put my finger on it - must be the legs, maybe? Anyhow, apart from that, nicely done, no doubt ^^

I thank you for your detailed comment n_n I was a bit worried about the pose where she’s lying down, I think it’s due to the legs and feet that look too plain, perhaps…
Yes, the poses of the top row helps to see how she is in different positions, but it was also the orders of the exercise ^^
The little sleeping character is a little puppet that belongs to a species I created that’s named “Coton”. As usual I have not enough inspiration to create a whole unique world for the Cotons, but I plan to insert it discreetly in some of my arts, to show that it’s a permanent character of my world. Here’s a more detailed art of Coton if you’re interested -----> [link]

Hmmm I think you’re right, perhaps I had to bend her left leg a little more *shrug* But what bothers me more in this pose are her eyes: too small and drawn too high on her face -_-
Hey, as I get you now, I’d like to show you an art I made for you a long time ago; I sent some mails and messages but I got no answer from you. Here it is and enjoy

You're welcome (and Coton sure is cute, no worries) - I don't think her eyes are too small or too high on her face, I didn't really notice that at all - what I noticed is just that she seemed a bit stiff and unnatural there, but it's no big deal
Take care ^-^

Oh, now I think I recognize this rabbit: I think I’ve seen her in a Tabaluga cartoon, is this right? (I’m not totally sure because I’m not used in paying attention to this cartoon when I watch TV). I must say that the URL helped me, he he ^^

*watching once again* Hmm yes it’s true…a bit stiff…and also the eyes too small too -_-
Yup, I know about the drawing, and I will come back to it - it's just that I'm usually very busy, so it takes me a while to get back to comments .. and commenting on drawings - believe me though, I will comment on it eventually, no worries at all
Oh, okay, thank you in advance ^^ In fact I was a little worried, because I thought you had never seen them, despite the messages I sent you. By the way, I think there’s a color customization problem in this art: I mean, on my laptop (where I made this art) the wallpaper has the good colors and brightness parameters, but when I see it on another computer (at the school, in a cybercafé…) the wallpapers’ pink and brown are way too much saturation! But now I don’t know how it looks on your monitor… *shrugs*
Take care ^-^
Thanks ^^ You too!

I'm sure you could get her to fit into any genre of story, or 'time'. Lucie's quite versatile actually. I also see her as a bit of an environmentalist
Lucie sitting is my favourite pose here :3
I really like her :3 She's got such a vibrant personality that even the coldest of people would appreciate ^^ Congratulations for the fantastic work!!
Yay! I thank you for your positive comment and for appreciating my Lucie n___n This helps me to think I made the good choice when I created her body and her personality ^^
I'm sure you could get her to fit into any genre of story, or 'time'. Lucie's quite versatile actually. I also see her as a bit of an environmentalist ; (not in the extreme...more like, someone who'd be upset by the effects of industrialization/globalisation etc). I wouldn't mind seeing her in a fantasy setting and I don't think it'd be very difficult...a lot of fantasy explores themes that are relevant today
There are good ideas you’re bringing
As for the fantasy setting, some years ago I was imagining her as the daughter of the Earth, in a story talking about the life of our planet, from its birth to our days. She would be the witness of the Earth’s life, during 4,5 billion years, and she would have seen the creation of the continents, the birth of life, the dinosaurs, the story of the humans and its evolution… But I finally realize this project is way too big and hard to come true O_o
Lucie sitting is my favourite pose here :3
Hehe, me like the one where she’s leaning against the tree, watching the little bird ^.^

I truly love the cute, well characterized job you did on Lucie here. She really seems to come alive here.
You really keep on improving! I believe you have a bright future ahead of you. ^ ^
